Liz Bennett Raises Impressive Haul

Strong fundraising numbers indicate momentum for veteran legislator

Cedar Rapids, IA – Today, Liz Bennett’s campaign for the open Iowa State Senate seat in District 39 announced that it has raised $19,046 this year, demonstrating a strong showing of support for the veteran legislator who announced her candidacy for office last June.

“We are encouraged by these numbers," says Campaign Treasurer Diane Peterson. "I've heard powerful stories from people across the district about how Liz has personally helped them and changed their lives. This is what public service is all about, and this is why the people have been eager to support her in this primary."

The campaign has received contributions from 208 donors in Cedar Rapids. In total, the campaign has received 240 contributions from donors across Iowa. The campaign reports $13,803 cash on hand, which will be crucial in the final stretch of the primary election cycle.

“Fundraising is always one of the most difficult aspects of running for public office,” says Rep. Liz Bennett. “However, when you’ve put in the work for eight years, when you’ve shown up for people time and again, it gets a little easier to ask for their support. And as you can see, we’re not backed by any big Super PACs. This grassroots campaign is powered by the people.”

Liz Bennett is currently serving her fourth term in elected office as a State Representative. She is now pursuing the senate seat currently held by long-time Iowa State Senator Rob Hogg. Senator Hogg announced he would not seek re-election last year, and has since endorsed Rep. Liz Bennett. In addition, Bennett has received the endorsement of the Cedar RapidsSunrise Movement, #VOTEPROCHOICE, Our Revolution Iowa, and former Congresswoman and current candidate for the United States Senate, Abby Finkenauer, as well as over a dozen current and former elected officials in the state of Iowa. A champion of progressive values, Bennett has earned a reputation for being an activist politician, building coalitions of support among several grassroots organizations operating across District 39 and the state of Iowa.

“We are living in tough times,” says Rep. Liz Bennett. “Iowans need a fighter, a proven leader with a track record of getting things done. Having served in elected office in the Iowa House for nearly a decade, I am ready to bring my experience to the Iowa Senate, the last stop before the Governor’s Office, to be a true advocate for the people of District 39 and the state of Iowa.”
